The K value has a strong correlation to molecular geometries of boranes, carboranes, metalloboranes and a large number of transition metal organometallic cluster systems. Its basis is the eight ( octet ) and eighteen electron rules. This paper provides simple examples which illustrate the link between the three dimensional geometry of a cluster and its K value. It also found that for the simple systems the K value is related to Wade?s skeletal electron pairs ( SEP ) by the equation K = 3( N-2).
